If you want to serve Katonah in an impactful, meaningful, and exciting way, you already have what it takes to get started as a volunteer firefighter for KFD. When it comes down to it, becoming a volunteer firefighter is about having the willingness and drive to make a difference. You bring us the desire to help people, and we'll get you the training and skills you need to be successful.
Members under 18 years old must have parent/guardian consent.
Not only will the department pay for your gear and Firefighter 1 training, but KFD encourages and supports your continued fire service education in areas such as CPR, Engine Operations, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, and more!
Homeowners in the Town of Bedford who have been members of KFD and who have resided in town for two years or more are eligible for a 10% Volunteer Tax Exemption on county, town, and school taxes.
The Westchester County Higher Education Recruitment and Retention Opportunity (HERRO) program provides tuition reimbursement or student loan repayment assistance to active volunteer firefighters.
Members may accumulate annual credit for alarms, drills, and meetings under the Length of Service Program (LOSAP), giving them an opportunity to receive a monthly pension at age 65.
Once you are a member of the Katonah Fire Department, you will be trained-at no cost to you-by local and county firefighters.
